Teaching opportunities can open the door to the life of a Digital Nomad

Talk is cheap, or so the saying goes, but in reality that conversational English you’ve managed to learn can be of great benefit as well as well as a source of income.

Consider the interesting fact that there are a number of people around the world that need help learning conversational English (Spanish and French apply as well) but there isn’t anyone around to help them out.  This is the scenario you’ve been waiting for.

There are opportunities in this situation and one of them is working for a company called SameSpeak.  This company offers you the opportunity to connect to people around the world and have a conversation while helping them learn the art of conversation in English.

If you’re the age of 16 or older, have a computer with internet, and know how to use Skype; you can make $10 a session from the comfort of your own home.  A session is 30 minutes so you could potentially make $20 an hour if you scheduled 2 sessions an hour.

The demand for this is based on student demand, so the work is not exactly steady, but it’s a way to bring in extra income from the comfort of your own home.

As I write this I can tell you there is a surplus of coaches, but keep this site in mind for future options in teaching conversational English.  SameSpeak.

Italki is another company that offers to pay Language Teachers and not just for English.  This site is larger and offers a variety of different options in setting up your own schedule and offering your services at the price you consider acceptable.

You can work from anywhere in the world and the site handles the payments and the security to make sure you’re covered.  The chance to teach your native language can be lucrative or just something to pass the time and bring in a few dollars.  If you’ve considered life as a Digital Nomad and you have the skills to teach a language, this might be the perfect fit.

There is no fee to sign up at italki so it’s worth the look to see if this might fit your idea of possible income opportunities.

Currently as I write this the site has approximately 1.5 Million students, +2000 teachers, and is one of the largest and most successful sites offering more than 100 languages.

Tutor ABC is another website that is in the business of languages.  They are a little more specific when selecting tutors so you will have to have a college degree to work for them.  They are currently recruiting coaches with previous working experience and are one of the leading online learning companies focusing on language.

This is an opportunity to work from home and make an income with that degree in German you got from Alabama State.  This may not appeal to certain people as it can be demanding if you are not used to teaching over the internet, but the possibilities to be employed as a foreign language teacher with your own hours and schedule is too much to pass up.

TEFL by Barry O’Leary

If you’re not familiar with EFL (English as a Foreign Language) also referred to as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), then consider reading my previous article here about this very subject.

I also wanted to introduce you to Barry O’Lear; an author who has published a book that offers you an insider’s view of his personal experiences as a teacher in a foreign land and that’s worth a look as well.

The book is a steal at only $0.99 at this time on Amazon – if you’d like to get a copy then click on the book cover to the right and it should open up for you in the next window.

If you get a chance to read this – it could open your eyes to the reality of teaching in a foreign land as well as offer you some of the wonderful things that can happen when you step away from the yellow brick road and follow your own path in life to places you might never have known existed.

What’s it like to be an Online Teacher?

I wanted to share a blog post with you from John Clites who is living in Brazil and teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). He’s living his dream and doing the things he wants to do but also working on the side to bring in additional income.  His international lifestyle has advantages that many people only dream of, but he’s also working to make a living just like most travelers.

Click through to see his article here, where he talks about a typical day and what he does as an EFL teacher.  The article is something you should consider reading if you’ve ever thought about world travel and how to fund it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post,  I hope it’s offered  you some practical advice and pointed you in the direction you want to go.  If you long for an unconventional life or you’re searching for ways to fund your international travel then Teaching English or another foreign language might just be the best thing for you.
