Travel to Honduras

Travel to Honduras

Safety should always be a concern when traveling, but it should not be the only reason you decide not to go on that trip you’ve been dreaming of.  There are many places around the world that can seem dangerous and this is usually due to a generalized stereotyping of a certain country or peoples.  The truth is that there are dangerous places, but not as many as people think.  Of course you may not want to walk into a war zone, but many exotic locations have gotten a bad wrap simply because of one or two incidents.

Here are a few posts from around the web and some video you might be interested in.

Travel Warnings for the US

As the world continues to become a more volatile place, it’s a smart thing to check out the local Travel Advisories for the country you are traveling to.  This portion of the site is geared toward getting out the best information so you don’t find yourself traveling to a place that can put you in danger.

Currently the State Department has listed these places under Current Travel Warnings.  These are the places you need to watch out for.  Visit the State Department website for the most current and up to date information.

Travel Warnings are issued when long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable lead the State Department to recommend that Americans avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country. A Travel Warning is also issued when the U.S. Government’s ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff. The countries listed below meet those criteria.

Mexico Travel Warning just in time for Spring Break

US Government raises Threat Level for Mexico

Mexico Travel Alert

The US State Department has increased the Threat Level for Mexico due to the increase of violence over recent months.  With Drug Cartels, killings, and gang wars safety is an issue and with Spring Break just around the corner, students and travelers should be made aware and take precaution

Mexico is not stranger to the list as they have been on it since April 22, 2011, but as of yesterday Mexico moved to the top of the list with a warning to 16 different states. The State Department is urging travelers to stay in the more populated tourist areas as to avoid much of the on-going issues found in more secluded areas.

Spring Break Travel to Mexico

Spring Break Mexico

Spring Break popular travel sites such as South Padre Island, Texas or Acapulco, Mexico are places to research before traveling.  Being American in no way excuses or influences the violence or Mexican Law so it is important to understand the consequences of travel to these types of location.

Mexico is a favorite spot for young teenagers as the beer is cheap and no one cards you for ID.  This allure has been the reason that Spring Breakers see at least one death and several arrests each Spring Break.  For more information on Spring Break Travel visit this great site or click here to see the State Departments Travel Warning Page.

European Chill Sweeps West adding to Death Toll

European Chill Sweeps West adding to Death Toll

A winter storm is the cause for more death today as frigid temperatures and snow create deadly temperatures across Europe and into Africa.  The iconic locations in Rome saw snowfall the likes of which have not been reported in decades.

Severe temperatures are the cause for more deaths as homeless freeze and heating oil is in high demand but becoming a scares commodity.  Planes stranded passengers in London’s Heathrow and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airports.

As the storm continues to ravage Europe, the death toll rises from cold temperatures, exposure, and accidents related to keeping warm as in the case of a family in Moscow.  The deaths of 9 were blamed on a fire started by a make-shift stove intended to keep the family warm.  With temperatures at 12 Celsius or 1 Fahrenheit, the cold is extreme.

Travel Warnings Lifted for Bangkok

The all clear was put out for travel to Bangkok by several countries to include Israel and China.  Additionally it looks as if Germany and France have lowered their warnings but the number of countries to have placed travel restriction warnings for Bangkok numbered 18 and included the United States – those 14 other countries still have some sort of warning listed.

The warning was in response to the capture of a suspected terrorist from Lebanon.  Israel was one of the first countries to impose the travel warning and the first to remove it as well which will send a signal to other countries which will likely remove the warning as well.  Although the US has not yet retracted the Travel Warning – it is no longer listed on the State Department website.

If you’re planning travel and you are from the US, take a moment to check out Travel Warnings here.
